After the complete character overhaul last year, the Ford Escape compact crossover SUV became a segment leader in styling, fuel efficiency and technology. Ford has even upped the ante with the incoming model.

Trim

For the 2014 model year, the Ford Escape will only be offered in three trim levels: the S, SE and the Titanium trims. The SEL trim has been discontinued.

Styling and Features

Although the 2014 Escape will only feature some minor changes, it must be noted that it will now has a more contemporary styling, modern powertrains, and a richer list of high-tech features. According to some 2014 Ford Escape Rumors, some new exterior color treatment and new features among trim levels and packages will give more life to an already impressive ride. Notable Exterior features that distinguish high-end trims include body-color mirrors and trim, HID headlamps, fog lights, dual chrome exhaust and the 19-inch wheels.

Although the Ford Escape already offers some impressive amenities, 2014 Ford Escape News getting to us suggests that the interior of the vehicle will even boast of some more impressive available features. The new Escape will be equipped with the latest version of Ford’s MyFord Touch operating system with a large touchscreen display at the center of the dash. It will also feature a hands-free power liftgate that operates by waving one’s foot under the rear bumper.

All-in-all, Ford Escape 2014 model comes with some cool features to embarrass many luxury cars but you cannot still compare it to a mid-size SUV. Its interior is less spacious than those of others in its segment!

Powertrain

Some buyers may be discontented with the discontinuation of the previous generation’s high-performing V-6 engine and the gas/electric hybrid model, Ford will make up for this with three 4-cylinder engines. The 2014 Ford Escape can be powered by the previous model’s 168-horsepower, 2.5-liter I-4, a more powerful and fuel-efficient turbocharged 1.6 L EcoBoost engine rated at 173 horsepower will be standard on the Titanium trim and there is also a 231-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four that delivers V6-like thrust.

All the engine units are standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, with all-wheel-drive (AWD) optional. The 1.6l Ecoboost delivers 23 City / 33 Hwy and 22 City / 30 Hwy in FWD and 4WD configuration respectively.

Safety

According to some 2014 Ford Escape News, the 2014 Escape will also be a leader on the safety front. It will feature the automaker’s Curve Control for secure acceleration when turning, a Blind Spot Information System, and a self-parking function. A rear view camera will be standard across the trim levels, while Rear parking aid sensors will now be standard on the Titanium trims.

Release date and Price

The 2014 Ford Escape should be available in showrooms by September 2013. In order to remain competitive in its segment, we expect the price to increase slightly. This means that the base S front-drive model powered by the 2.5-liter engine should start at around $23,750. The SE trim equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo-four should carry a base price of $26,250 and $28,000 for the front-drive and the AWD respectively, while the top-of-the-line Titanium trim is expected to start at $31,500 for the FWD and $33,500 for the AWD (all prices include the $825 manufacturer’s destination charge).

I really like the feature of Titanium technology package however I am a bit disappointed with SE missing the luxury package. Power Passenger seats seem to be missing in the lower versions with Titanium having the same only in the driver side.
