Many new vehicles have turned out at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. From the imaginable concept cars to the production models that will soon get to the showrooms, everything is here! Some of these will not get to the U.S., but one of the vehicles that will cross the Atlantic is the Volkswagen Golf.
I bet you’ve seen some studio shot but now let us get down to the reality. The Volkswagen show is all about the new Golf. Apart from showing us the prototypes of highly fuel-efficient Golf BlueMotion and sporty Golf GTI, Volkswagen is also showing us some future models.
Although new Volkswagen Golf GTI now wears an edgier styling, the styling still looks a bit like the previous model. The real changes occurred in the interior. On the inside, it is obvious that Volkswagen is aiming to continue its success story. The interior is more spacious (there is extra legroom in the back and the luggage space was even increased), completely redesigned information and entertainment systems, new standard safety systems like multi-collision braking and a proactive passenger protection system are some of the sophisticated features that will come along.
The near-production Golf GTI concept car is an ideal proof that sporty vehicles can also be fuel efficient. At 6.0 l/100 km, it sets a new record. Golf BlueMotion will also come with some affordable fuel-saving technologies. The future Golf BlueMotion will also have an impressive average fuel consumption of about 3.2 l/100 km; this is about 85 g CO2/km. The Volkswagen Golf will be available in Europe from the autumn.
Even with all the fuel saving technologies employed by some automakers, one thing obvious; as the governments continue to call for stricter fuel economy and good emissions standards, automakers are not tired of producing high-performance cars. Some new rides displayed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show so far prove to us just how committed the car companies are to ensuring that the passion of motoring is sustained even while looking for high-mileage alternatives to the gasoline engine.
There is one car out there now that calls all attentions to itself as it moves in this direction, the Cadillac CTS-V wagon. Its limited utility and limited rear seat legroom and headroom calls for concern, and critics will rightly say that it is flawed, but most people will not notice all these as they will be busy burning its 500 HP!
We have all been waiting for the 2014 Jaguar F-Type, and it finally showed up today at the 2012 Paris motor show. The car is smaller and lighter than the current XK; even at that the lightest model which uses a 340-hp supercharged V6, weighs about 3,521 pounds! That is around 280 pounds heavier than the Porsche 911 Cabriolet. Beside the F-Type with V6 engine is the F-type S and the F-Type V8 S. They will all be on sale by spring.
