The 2012 Paris Motor Show ends today after offering us a glimpse into the future by introducing the new car models to the world. I doubt if there are other auto shows anywhere in the world with a richer history than Mondial de l’Automobile. It is the event that kicks off the official auto show season.
Motor Shows like the Paris Motor Show 2012 are important for all car makers and the buyers as they provide a platform to showcase new car models and technologies. The just concluded International Motor Show was not short of interesting moments. Ever since Citroën’s DS 19 helped the show to reach the one million visitors mark in 1955, the show have been home to many other notable car models from the some famous manufacturers; including the Peugeot Proxima concept, 1984 Ferrari Testarossa, Jaguar C-X75 and the Alfa Romeo 2006 8C road car, and the attendance at the event has continued to be impressive. This year was not an exception, even with the tough economic situation, more than one million car enthusiasts have come here since the show started sixteen days ago; the event has been a big hit as car lovers trooped out to see what the future could look like.
2012 Paris Auto Show was not just about the cars which will start rolling on the dealerships’ floor soon, we have also seen some complex cars that may not be produced eventually. While some concepts showcased the new green technology, some were so flamboyant in looks and we branded them the “design studies”.
From the unveiling of the SUVs, crossovers, hatch backs, wagons and sedans, there were no dry moment at all. Jaguar came with its supercar the Jaguar F, Renault revealed the fourth generation super mini Clio with which it plans to capture the segment. The 2012 Paris Auto show also witness the launch of the new 11,255 Pounds, high performing Vauxhall Adam, Land Rover, McLaren, Volkswagen and many others. Just like it has been doing for the past 100 years, the show was all about the best the industry has to offer.
For the past few years, the Paris Auto Show has been a major event to showcase electric vehicles. This year was no different as the Renault ZOE was overwhelming crowned as the “Best Green Car of the Paris Motor Show 2012”. The car made it first appearance at the 2009 Paris Motor Show. It is an aerodynamic electric car, with a very low price tag and a charging time of 30 minutes. It is capable of a top speed of up to 90 miles/hour and a driving range of about 100 miles in electric mode.
Although it is only October and the Vancouver International Auto Show will only hold from March 26 to 31, there is excitement in the industry about the show, and plans have already started. The 2012 Paris Motor Show has been a huge success but it could not satiate our needs and we cannot wait to be back here in 2014.
