Mercedes revealed their next in lineup coupe model, 2015 Mercedes Benz S-class at the Frankfurt show this year and it certainly made a stunning impression with its stylish design. Following its superior CL-class, there will be changes in its dimensions and design. The S-class coupe will be reduced by 1.5 inches in sedan’s ride height and the style may undergo some aggressive and uncommon changes. Side mirrors hanging from the shoulder line, distended grill and horizontally stretched taillights will be some of the offerings from Mercedes to give the coupe more of a sportier look.
Design
The S-class coupe will retain the interiors from the S-class sedan containing elements such as the gear selector and the dual TFT displays. It will also retain the frameless windows from the CL-class model. However, compared to CL, the rear passenger seating could lose some space because of the reduction in height but should still be comfortable enough.
The S-class coupe will emphasize the presence of S-class models in the market and wishes to endeavor the territory of the Bentley Continental GT. The offerings from the S-class coupe will target to deliver the performance and luxury level on par to the Crewe hand-build vehicles. Though the offerings cannot be compared to those from BMW or Audi, Mercedes can still prove to be a typical luxury brand.
The Mercedes Benz S-class coupe may undergo weight reduction compared to the CL-class via use of high strength aluminum and steel. This 2 door couple will also lay the foundation for an upcoming convertible from Mercedes too.
Powertrain Options
The powertrain options will be shared with the sedan. One of the twin turbocharged V-8 models, S550 will have 455-hp and 4.7 liters while the other V-8 model, S63 AMG will have 577-hp and 5.5 liters. The option for 12 cylinders will be available in the form of S600 and S65 AMG models. The S600 will utilize a 6 liter V-12 engine capable of delivering more than 500-hp while the S65 may deliver up to 621-hp. The S63 will be a standard all-wheel drive model while the same option could be available in S550 but otherwise all of Mercedes 12-cylinder models will be rear-wheel drive exclusively. The S-class coupe would be launched with a seven speed automatic transmission.
