Some years ago, Mazda and Alfa formed an alliance to produce cars. Mazda MX 5 also known as the Mazda Miata is one of the two new vehicles that came from this Mazda – Alfa alliance. Since 1989 when the car was introduced, we have seen three generations of it. Although the generations come in different styles and feature different powertrains and gadgets, one thing they have in common is their success story; the Miata model is up there as the best-selling roadster coupe car ever. Just like in every industry, you cannot afford to relax in the car industry, this is why Mazda has made plan to replace the current generation Miata with an all-new, fourth-generation 2015 MX-5 Miata.
According to reports getting to us, the next generation 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata is all about weight loss. Unlike before when the car got bigger and heavier with each new generation, the next MX-5 will be smaller and lighter; just like the first generation Miata, it will have a small size. The whole idea is to return the iconic roadster to its roots. A recent report suggests that the incoming MX-5 will have a weight of 2,447 lbs when equipped with a six-speed manual and a soft top. This is around 220 lbs. lighter than its predecessor. Some reports also confirm that the 2015 Miata MX-5 will be shorter than the current model, but its wheelbase will remain as it is now.
2015 Mazda MX-5 interior and exterior
Earlier this year, at the launch of the Shinari concept, Ikuo Maeda, the general manager of Mazda Motor Corporation’s design division confirmed that the Shinari design will lead to the next generation of Mazda design, and we are sure that the MX-5 Miata 2015 compact sports coupe will be one of the first to benefit from Mazda’s new “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design language.
According to some insiders at Mazda production unit, the new model car will have more personality than its predecessors. Mazda will look to correct the styling mistakes noticed in previous generation MX 5 with the next Miata. It will increase the current model grill in reminiscent of the original Miata and introduce a new LED Technology Lightening, also in reminiscent of the first generation Miata.
The car which will still be offered as a rear-wheel drive will come with two sports seats, aluminum inserts, and a folding roof. It will also come with some high tech features similar to what you get from its rivals on the market.
2015 MX-5 Miata Engine option
Although Mazda has not disclose any details about the amount of change that will be under the hood of the MX-5 Miata 2015, we have heard rumors about the possibility of either of three different petrol engines (turbocharged 1.3-liter four with 200 hp or 1.5L SKYACTIV-G 4-cylinder or 130 hp 1.6L SKYACTIV-D engine) and one diesel engine (2.0L 4-cylindre rated at 167 hp). We are sure of an engine from Mazda SKYACTIV Technology family. Features like a new exhaust design, low-friction parts and variable cam phasing are all expected to come with the engine.
There will be a 6-speed manual and dual-clutch semi-automatic 6-speed transmission. Whichever engine Mazda finally settles for, we expect the fuel consumption of the new generation Miata to drop by 10% (the current model is estimated at 22/ 28 mpg in the city and on the highway) and its output increased by around 33 hp.
Release date and Price of New Mazda Miata
We have not confirmed the exact release date and price of the all-new 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster, but we expect the car to hit the market sometimes next year at a base price of around $ 25,000.
Competition
The 2015 MX-5 Miata will compete with cars such as the Ford Mustang V-6, Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, Mini Cooper S Convertible, Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S for buyers’ affection when it finally hits the market.
