The idea that GM could be planning for a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro started forming in our minds when Chevrolet Z/28 was unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show. We have now confirmed it; Chevrolet is truly working on a Camaro for the 2015 model year! Chevrolet Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser confirmed this when he revealed some details about the car.
The Camaro is manufactured by General Motors under its Chevrolet brand. It is classified as a pony car or as a muscle car in some versions. While we love the Current Camaro, we all know that it is not perfect; it needed to be improved in some areas. It is a good thing that GM has decided to do this.
Here are some of the 2015 Camaro rumors we have heard.
According to Oppenheiser, 2015 Camaro convertible will take some styling cues from the first or second- generation Camaro RS that was so popular in Europe in the late 70s and early 80s, but he declined to give more details when pressed further. From what we have heard from other sources, the car will resemble its coupe cousin, except for its soft-top roof that will make it more attractive.
The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro 2015 is expected to ride on a new Alpha platform, the same platform which underpins the 2013 Cadillac ATS. According to a report by GM Inside News, the next-gen Camaro aided by the new platform will be smaller and it will significant drop some weight. The reduction in size and weight will allow the vehicle to be more fuel efficient, agile, and more driver-oriented. This measure is taken to conform to stringent federal fuel-economy standards and satisfy buyers’ demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles.
As for what will lie under its hood, several 2015 Camaro rumors suggest that the Camaro 2015 model will be offered with three engine lineups.
- A base 4-cylinder with GM’s eAssist electric drive and available turbocharging.
- An optional V6s with eAssist and forced induction (that is similar to the company’s 3.6-liter twin-overhead-cam design).
- A V8 that will be smaller but more efficient than the current 6.2-liter.
The team working on the Camaro 2015 model has settled for a transmission that will provide a balance among performance, refinement and fuel economy. We heard rumours that the V8 and V6 Chevrolet Camaro 2015 models will use a new 7-speed manual and automatic. The current 6-speed transmission is also a possibility.
Handling
Just like the current generation Camaro, we expect the 2015 Camaro to put its faith in a 4-wheel independent suspension (redesigned) and standard 4-wheel disc brakes for smooth handling. Steering assist could also move from the conventional engine-belt-driven hydraulic to an electrohydraulic or pure electric. This will improve handling even as it increases the mile per gallon figure.
Competition
The next-generation Chevrolet Camaro is expected to compete with Subaru BRZ, Ford Mustang, SRT Barracuda, Scion FR-S, and Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Release Date and Price
Although most of what we have heard about 2015 Chevrolet Camaro are mere speculation but logic suggests that the next-generation car will be unveiled in 2015 with a base price of around $20,000.
