There is no doubt about this. Volvo is a respected car manufacturer! The company owes its popularity to the elegance of its products. But, no matter how popular a brand is, there is always a need to improve quality so as to maintain popularity among its fans. With Volvo, the objective is to meet buyers’ increasing need for cars with luxurious and modern features. With the new design plan already in place, Volvo said by 2014 we should expect cars with different platform starting with the 2014 Volvo XC90 model.
Several drawings of the proposed 2014 XC90 have already been released by Volvo, but the sketches are all different. New details are now coming out about this upcoming Volvo crossover model. From the report available to us, we know that this next generation Volvo XC90 2014 model will be the first car produced by the carmaker to use the new Scalable Platform Architecture SPA. The SPA and Volkswagen’s MOB platform are similar in concept. It was designed by the engineers to underpin all upcoming Volvo models regardless of their size.
There are many things one can look forward to in the 2014 Volvo XC90 redesign. The car will likely be very rakish and elegant. We do not have a clue as to the theme Volvo will like to surprise its fans with, but at least we expect the about to be produced car to offer as much practicality (including seven-seat capability) as the first model that was produced 12 years ago. Some expected differences include a more luxurious interior boasting of glass panels and floating centre stack among many other amazing features. Surely, the dashboard and panels will go through some revolutionary changes, the current design and look will be dropped for a more attractive one! The Volvo XC90 2014 will borrow some design tips from the 2011 concept, there will be a wide grille on the front and the high waistline will still have the trademark vertical tail lamps.
After receiving a modest face-lift in 2013, the 2014 Volvo XC90 redesign will make use of a different engine. New generation of downsized Volvo Environmental Architecture (VEA) engines will replace the current six-cylinder and V8 Volvo motors. A new four cylinder turbocharged or naturally aspirated engine will start coming with the new line-up of cars from the Swedish carmaker by 2014. The VEA engines will be in both gasoline and diesel formats, but it is unclear now if the two formats will get to the U.S. We also expected the 2014 XC90 to use a direct injection system for fuel intake. Plug-in hybrids are also likely to be made, but the time of arrival of these to the North America has not been disclosed yet.
The level of brand loyalty Volvo commands in amazingly high. Its new CEO in U.S., John Maloney predicts that Volvo will achieve a 25 per cent increase in sale this year. This is surprising when you put into consideration that Volvo has not released any new model this year. So, you can only imagine the number of units that will be sold when the 2014 Volvo XC90 comes out in 2014.
