2014 Toyota Sequoia
Toyota Motor Manufacturing introduced the Toyota Sequoia in 2000. Based on the Tundra pickup platform, the Sequoia is categorized as a full-sized SUV (sport utility vehicle), and is a very popular in its class. The Sequoia was designed as a direct competitor to the Ford Expedition, though sales have held up well against the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Nissan Armada, as well. The Sequoia was designed by Kaoru Hosegawa, and fits in the Toyota lineup between the Land Cruiser and 4Runner. It’s currently the largest sports utility vehicle produced by Toyota, and the 2014 Toyota Sequoia is a completely new design.
2014 Toyota Sequoia Engine Specs & Options
Prior to 2014 buyers could choose from two V8 engines in the Sequoia, however starting in 2014 they’ll be offering the 381 hp 5.7L V8 as standard. The smaller 4.6L V8 has been discontinued for this model. Toyota’s proprietary workhorse 5.7-Liter i-FORCE V8 DOHC delivers 381 hp at 5600 rpm, with 401 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. The six-speed automatic transmission powers through the gears smoothly, whether you’re climbing steep grades or cruising flat highways. Toyota’s decision to switch to a single engine option is a smart play, given that the 2014 Sequoia’s reliable motor is a popular, well-known quantity.
2014 Toyota Sequoia Mileage
The 2014 Sequoia is listed as delivering 13 mpg in the city, and 17 mpg on the highway. This is slightly lower than the 2013, which listed 13 mpg/18 mpg on the sticker. The 2014 Sequoia is a big truck, though. This mileage is well within a reasonable range, and doesn’t differ significantly from other motors in its class. Consumers choose the Sequoia for its heft and brawn, and aren’t likely to be deterred by low fuel economy. This truck delivers on its promise, whether towing a heavy load or ferrying your family around town, and the mileage is to be expected.
2014 Toyota Sequoia Features
The 2014 Sequoia seats eight in three rows of seats, though optional dual captain’s chairs can take the place of the second row bench, reducing seating to seven. Carrying capacity is one area where the 2014 Sequoia really shines. The second and third row seats can be folded to create a flat cargo area, opening up to a whopping 66 square feet of space.
Toyota’s 2014 Sequoia comes standard with 4-wheel independent suspension, which keeps the ride relatively smooth for a vehicle this size. With a body-on-frame construction, however, you’ll notice any rough surfaces you might encounter. The AVS system (active variable air suspension) helps to smooth things out a bit, and the cab is well sealed, keeping wind and road noise to a bearable minimum. Blind Spot monitor is available with only 2014 Sequoia Platinum model.
Interior features of the 2014 Sequoia are what you might expect for a well-appointed mid-level SUV, which is available in three models: the SR5 is the base model, the Limited is the middle offering, and the Platinum is the top of the line. All models come standard with air-filtered, three-zone climate control systems, as well as a multi-display that shows outside temperature, compass direction, fuel economy, and the number of miles left before the tank is empty. The Limited offers Toyota’s Entune™ 8 Premium Audio System, with navigation and apps accessible via a 7-inch touchscreen. The Platinum features the same system with JBL® components and amplifier.
The 2014 Toyota Sequoia SR5 features attractive easy-clean cloth seats. Upgrading to the Limited adds leather trim, and the Platinum features luxurious all-leather seating throughout. Soft touch plastic, chrome details, and a smooth surface finish make the dashboard and controls in each of the models attractive and easy to use.
2014 Toyota Sequoia vs. 2013 Toyota Sequoia
The primary difference between the 2014 Sequoia and the 2013 model is the engine options. The 2014 Sequoia comes standard with the 381 hp 5.7L V8, and offers no other engine choices. The 2013 model had a smaller 4.6L motor as an option, but this has been discontinued in 2014. The 2013 Sequoia also had a Flex Fuel engine option, but that has been discontinued, as well.
Release Date of the 2014 Toyota Sequoia
