The all-new fifth generation Porsche 911 GT3 was recently unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The car arrives just in time for the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the first Porsche 911 model. The new 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 has more aerodynamic bodywork when compared to the model it replaces, and also comes with substantial upgrades to the engine, transmission and suspension.
When the new Porsche 911 GT3 hit the market, it could be the best-looking 911 ever released. It is based on the light body architecture of the current generation 911 Carrera, which uses a hybrid steel and aluminum construction. But unlike the Carrera, the 2014 911 GT3 features some unique exterior updates. In front, it gets a more aggressive front splitter and a functional air vent. At the back, there is a large fixed rear wing (which combines the “ducktail” and “whale-tail” wings) and a diffuser with dual exhaust outlets at the center of the bumper. In addition, the Porsche 911 GT3 2014 is 1.7 inches wider in the rear than the 911 Carrera S.
Just like it did in the past, the German automaker has placed the new Porsche GT3 at the head of its naturally aspirated line-up. A new 3.8L flat-six engine borrowed from 911 Carrera S will powered the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3. The engine has several mechanical improvements to its components; there are the titanium connecting rods and forged pistons. These improvements increased the power output of the engine from 400 horsepower to 475 horsepower.
A new active rear wheel steering system has been added to the fifth generation Porsche 911 GT3 – this is the first ever production Porsche to use a rear wheel steering system. The new steering system can move the back wheels in the same (or opposite direction) as the front wheels. According to Porsche, this improves lateral dynamics, stability and agility, and gives high steering precision.
One disappointing thing about the new Porsche 911 GT3 is the lack of a third pedal option. Manual transmission will not be offered on this model but there will be a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch sequential automatic transmission which has been tweaked to give maximum performance and response. The 475 horsepower and 323 lb-ft of torque gotten from the engine is sent to the rear-wheels via this new transmission, and this result in faster shifts
The Porsche 911 GT3 2014 has set a new performance standard. According to Porsche, the new GT3 has a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 195 miles per hour. On the race track, the car clocked 124 mph in less than twelve seconds and an impressive lap time of under 7:30 minutes was recorded on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The handling, suspension and braking system have been upgraded to complement the new engine. The new Porsche 911 GT3 2014 has a new chassis with aluminum suspension elements, stiffer springs/shocks, an electronically controlled and fully variable rear differential lock, and rides on 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires.
The 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 will start at $130,400 when it enters the dealerships in the U.S. later this year.
