The 2014 Nissan GT-R model is on its way and it promise to have smoother handling and better ride comfort. Every year, the GT-R gets prettier and faster. In order to keep to this tradition, the current GTR was revamped; the performance, ride and handling were re-engineered, and the interior and exterior were fine-tuned. The 2013 GT-R was already substantially refined and sales are not slack; production capacity has just been increased to accommodate the pre-orders. So, does it really need the enhancement? According to Nissan GT-R’s chief engineer, Kazutoshi Mizuno, the fashion twist is aimed at attracting the women and the older buyers.
The U.S.-spec Nissan GT-R 2014 will be unveiled later this month at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, but fortunately the Japanese version was spotted in Nurburgring during testing and we now have an idea of what to expect. This GT-R model received some functional changes to its chassis and engine with some structural enhancements. Although the third generation all-wheel-drive 2014 GTR super coupe that will come to the U.S. will have some packaging specifics for the American market, we know the mechanical upgrades on the Japanese version will appear on the American version when it comes early next year.
2014 GT-R changes
There is a revised exterior with an updated front and new rear bumpers. So, the exterior of the 11th generation GT-R was slightly enhanced but the 2014 Nissan GT-R changes significantly in the interior. Some new colors are noticeable inside the domestic version of the Pure, Black and Premium Editions. The most talked-about version is the one with the fashionable amber red interior. A new Premium Edition trim has been added to the trim level, it will have a customized cabin with Semi-Aniline leather. Carbon bucket seats are also offered as optional features on the Nissan GTR 2014 model.
The chassis was also refined. Nissan engineers adjusted the suspension bushings and tires so as to reduce its center of gravity. This gives the 2014 Nissan GT-R a better handling and stability. A new front stabilizer bar, re-calibrated shocks and cam bolts (on the front suspension) were added so as to maintain its critical camber accuracy and alignment settings. An instrument panel and new reinforcing stiffeners were added to give the platform more rigidity. There were also some reinforcement in the instrument panel member and dash panel bar which will increase the body rigidity and suspension performance.
2014 GT-R Engine
The 2014 Nissan GT-R changes also under the hood. The bi-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 is expected to deliver 570 horsepower, this is 28 Hp more than what you will get from the 2013 model. There are new higher-output fuel injectors which will improve the engine response and high-speed acceleration (the 0-60 time is now 2.7 seconds), the improved oil pan has a new baffle that maintains the pressure under all cornering conditions, the new relief valve helps the turbocharger bypass and the redesigned turbo plumbing helps in boosting the pressure even at high revs.
More fact will emerge when we get a comprehensive look at the 2014 GT-R. The pricing information is expected to be announced before the car is released next year.
