Mitsubishi will soon release the third generation of its Outlander SUV, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. The 3-row, 7-passenger, compact crossover SUV is being manufactured at the company’s assembly plant in Normal, Illinois.
Mitsubishi Outlander 2014 Styling and Redesign
Mitsubishi designers gave the 2014 Outlander a contemporary face that is only appealing, but one that is also functional. The Sport Limited Edition makes quite a visual statement with its center bumper, blackout side mirrors, wheel arch trim, roof rails and the special alloy wheels. Other notable exterior changes include a restyled grille, a more contoured body, wraparound headlamps and a raised belt line. According to Mitsubishi, the new design will also reduce aerodynamic drag. A Copper Metallic shade, Labrador Black Mica and Diamond White Pearl are some of the six exterior colors that will be offered.
The new interior was designed with passengers’ comfort in mind. With luxury features like a soft-touch instrument panel, wood-grain trim, glossy black center waterfall leather seating surfaces, nine-speaker 710-watt sound system, keyless entry, a High-Definition navigation system with 3D mapping and a remote power tailgate, the 2014 Outlander crossover exudes an unimaginable opulence
The 2014 Outlander crossover loses an inch in length and also boasts of a lightweight body (200 pounds less than the current model). This helps its fuel economy.
Although Mitsubishi main objective was to increase the fuel efficiency of the newly designed Outlander, the new model car also comes with a distinctive styling and a sporty demeanor.
2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Trims
The new Outlander is offered in 3 trim levels: ES, SE and GT trim levels
2014 Mitsubishi outlander competitors
It will compete with the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Dodge Journey, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester 2.5X, Ford Escape S, Mazda CX-5 Sport and some others.
With so many 2014 outlander competitors out there, Mitsubishi tried to set the Mitsubishi Outlander 2014 apart and give its competitors a run for their money. It did exactly this by introducing a fuel-saving technology in its new model car.
2014 Outlander Engine Option
There are 2 powertrain options available in the Mitsubishi Outlander 2014. A re-engineered version of the current model’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine which delivers 166 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque will be offered with the base models. The top-of-the-line GT versions will come with an upgraded version of last year’s SOHC 3.0-liter V-6 engine. The V6 will supply 224 hp and a 215 lb-ft. The 4-cylinder is paired with continuously variable automatic transmission and the V-6 uses a six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle’s performance is further enhanced by a new engine balancer shaft that provides smoother and quicker acceleration.
Standard safety features offered include 7 standard air bags, anti-lock brakes, Brake Pedal Recession Protection Structure, Traction control and Stability control. A reversing camera is standard on the SE trims, while the GT model has rain-sensing wipers. The 2014 Outlander will also come with three new optional safety features: adaptive cruise control, forward-collision mitigation and lane departure warning.
Mitsubishi has not announced the pricing details of the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, but a source from the company said that it is an ideal vehicle for the cost-conscience automotive consumer who is in need of a luxurious crossover. The base price of most of the 2014 outlander competitors ranges from $22,000 to $23,520, and we expect the new Mitsubishi Outlander to be similarly priced.
