Do you want a new car and also want to be friendly to your environment? The 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in hybrid is on its way, and it is worth waiting for. The ninth-generation 2013 Honda Accord has been released, but we are just waiting to have its 2014 Hybrid variant on our hands early next year. A report from Honda shows that this new hybrid car will be the basis for a conventional hybrid version of the Accord Sedan that will make a debut next summer.
Honda has upped the game! The 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid changes everything with its modern technology, large cabin space and top-of-the-class safety features. All the automakers around the world that are working on their hybrid cars must aim to match the sophisticated styling, craftsmanship and the hybrid efficiency that was used or their products will suffer in the market. The car comes as a relief to the Hybrid fans, and it is prep to make a 10 to 15 miles dash on electric-only power (good enough to get you to the nearest gas station for a refill in most cases).
Styling of Accord Plug-in Hybrid
The hybrid now has some blue accents around its LED headlamps, unique front bumpers, shuriken-style wheels and will come in three colours: Crystal Black Pearl, Burnished Silver Metallic or White Orchid Pearl. The interior of the 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid changes also, it has a more conventional interior which roomier and more comfortable than that of the Toyota quintessential hybrid. It can come across as a conventional hybrid and appeal to those who prefer a mid-size sedan to a hash back. It will be available in one trim level with all the standard features of the Honda Accord Touring Sedan trim like Expanded View Driver’s Mirror, multi-angle rear-view camera, Smart Entry, bio-fabric seat material, Pandora internet radio interface and the new Lane-Watch blind-spot display which displays a view of the right-side blind-spot on the centre screen. Choice safety features like stability control, traction control, Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) are also available.
2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Engine
Based on the new Accord sedan, the 2014 Accord Plug-in Electric Hybrid relies on Honda’s new two-motor hybrid system which combines a 137 HP Earth Dreams 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a 59 HP, 124-kilowatt electric motor in a 6.7 kWh battery pack to produce 196 HP in total. Three drive modes which can be manually chosen by the driver or automatically activated are available: an all-electric EV Drive, a direct Engine Drive and a gasoline-electric Hybrid Drive. When it is fully charged, the car will drive in the EV drive mode but it can start using its engine during heavy acceleration or at high speeds.
The official EPA ratings of the 2014 Accord Plug-in Electric Hybrid is not yet out, but Honda expects it to make more than 100 miles per gallon equivalent in the electric mode. The actual fuel economy may be slightly different since it depends on the frequency at which the battery is being recharged. It takes less than one hour to charge the battery when using a 240-volt “Level-2″ charger and with a standard 120-volt household electrical outlet, it will take three hours to charge fully.
Pricing information of the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in hybrid is still pending for now.
