We already knew that Ford was planning to make the first major makeover for one of its big vans; the 2014 Ford Transit Connect. The Ford TC is based on the European hauler and it is has come to replace the E-Series. The new Ford Transit Connect was recently unveiled at a commercial vehicle show in Germany, and it is on its way to the North America. The vehicle is relative new in the U.S., it got to the U.S. in 2010 and it has proven to be a success. The 2014 Transit Connect USA will start entering the dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2013, around the same time it enters the global markets.
From what we have heard, the new Transit Connect and its passenger-hauling version, called the Tourneo Connect in Europe will ride on a new platform, the C-segment architecture which also underpins the Ford Focus and Escape model ranges. There are two new Body configurations (short-wheelbase and long-wheelbase versions) and they offer spacious cargo room of about 102 and 127 cubic feet volume respectively which is the highest cargo carrying ability found in the class.
Ford Transit Connect 2014 is not just like any cargo van on the road; it is stylishly designed. The redesigned model looks less upright than the one it replaces. It features a more handsome front fascia which looks like that of the Escape. The slab sides have been removed, and a prominent chiselled beltline and flared fenders interferes with the sheet metal surfaces. The impressive design was extended to the interior of the vehicle which has some attractive finishes, more innovative technology, and some new driver-friendly features.
According to Ford, different configurations of the 2014 Ford Transit will be available; Double-Cab-in-Van and Kombi configurations will all be available for customers to choose from. The Kombi configuration is a seven-seat variant. Ford has not really disclosed the exact spec the local versions will be, but it promised a strong fuel economy; at least 25 per cent better than the E-Series.
The company also mentioned that it will offer a different gasoline powertrains with the 2014 Transit Connect USA. The current front wheel U.S.-market TC model is powered by a 136 hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine mated with four-speed automatic transmission. In Europe, a diesel version will be offered but in the US, a turbocharged EcoBoost and naturally aspirated engines are the only options expected. So, the rear-wheel drive 2014 Ford Transit Connect coming to the US will likely come with a 3.5-litre Ecoboost twin-turbo V-6. An automatic transmission is planned for the US, while buyers in Europe will be able to choose from either an automatic or a manual transmission.
The Ford Transit Connect 2014 will feature a Load Adaptive Control in its electronic stability system. This feature will help the stability-control software take into consideration the vehicle’s weight always so as to duly adjust its suspension response accordingly. This will ensure that the vehicle remains stable always.
Pricing information of the 2014 Ford Transit has not been disclosed.
