After a thorough facelift and feature upgrade that was done on the current model, the 2014 Ford Flex is not a complete redesigned model but the vehicle is coming with some changes in package contents. The Ford Flex is a one-of-a kind vehicle. Unlike other full-size car, it is not built on a rugged body-on-frame chassis, so it is neither an SUV nor a van. Initially, Ford categorized it as a crossover utility vehicle, but along the line that description became inadequate, so it is now known as just a utility vehicle.
The 2013 Flex is already a well accomplished vehicle, it is quite popular among large family who like to travel in comfort to distant places including snowy mountains or desert sands but the 2014 Ford Flex changes with many features, while improving ride quality and keeping the cabin much quieter from road noise.
Ford Flex 2014 Interior and Exterior
The new Ford Flex 2014 boasts of a stylishly simple but elegant exterior and it offers a large interior room with upscale cues. It features a well-rounded front end with a long and flat hood and roof, a relatively straight windshield, a flat rear glass and, aero-friendly contours and soft edges. The front end was unconventionally treated with relatively subtle headlights and a prominent chrome badge. Other notable exterior features are the liftgate covered in brushed aluminum and the optional contrasting-color roof.
2014 Flex Trims
The Ford Flex 2014 will be offered in three models: SE, SEL and Limited. The trims are differentiated by the list of features they offer.
2014 Ford Flex Seats
Ford put a lot into the design to make 2014 Flex a must have. Everything in the interior gives a timeless appeal. The interior is highly functional, meticulously assembled, elegantly appointed and comes with large passenger and cargo space. The front and 2nd-row can provide comfortable accommodation for five but the legroom space offered on the third-row remains tight. The front passenger, 2nd-row and third row seats can all fold flat to create cargo space in the back.
Aside from the 2014 SE trim, all Ford Flex 2014 will feature the MyFord Touch system. This feature was condemned by many for its slow response and cluster display in the current model but it has been upgraded. The system will respond faster and its screens will have a less cluttered look. This is one of the notable 2014 Ford Flex changes.
Other standard luxury features in Flex 2014 model include the 6-way power driver’s seat, keyless entry, a leather-wrapped and tilt/telescoping steering wheel, front and rear air conditioning, fog lights, Reverse Sensing System, and MP3-compatible CD player. The top-of-the-line Limited trim adds a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a power-folding 3rd-row seat, voice-activated navigation, Sony Premium audio with Ford SYNC communications system, and 19-inch alloy wheels to the mix.
2014 Flex Engine and mileage
Two choices of V6 engines which work with a 6-speed automatic transmission are offered across the Flex 2014 model trim level. The standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 which delivers 287 horsepower (with variable valve timing). Estimate fuel economy numbers of the engine is given as 17 and 24 mpg in the city and on the highway. These are slightly lower in the All-wheel-drive models. An optional EcoBoost V6 engine (with twin turbochargers and direct injection) rated at 365 horsepower is offered on AWD Limited trims.
Handling
The 2014 Flex comes with a smoother handling and a much improved performance. It owes its superior ride quality to its platform which also underpins the Volvo XC90, Taurus, Lincoln MKS and the MKT. Thanks to a new electric power steering system, steering feel is more precise and crisp. Although the electric power steering often feels inadequate, the system works perfectly with the new Flex. A taut suspension, big wheel and tire packages, and low ground stance also reduces sway and body roll to the minimum
Safety
Safety is one of Ford’s strong points, and the Flex prides itself as one of the safest vehicle money can buy. The current model comes with safety features like six airbags (including the 3-row side-curtain airbags), inflatable 2nd-row safety belts, anti-lock brakes, parking sensors, rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, stability control with anti-rollover technology and blind-spot warning system, and we expect all these to be offered on the new model
2014 Ford Flex Price
The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for a 2014 Ford Flex SE FWD starts around $32,000. For the SEL trim, the price jumps to $34,400 for the FWD and $36,400 for the AWD. A Limited trim with the base engine and FWD will be available for $40,300 and buyers can get one with the EcoBoost V6 and AWD at around $45,400.
