With increasingly strict government regulations and buyers’ request for improved fuel economy, automakers are struggling to find new ways of producing vehicles. Fords struggle resulted in the Fiesta. The Fiesta has been banished from America’s shore for over a decade, but it is coming back with more than a few surprises in the 2014 model year as the 2014 Ford Fiesta. The 2014 Fiesta model was displayed at 2013 Chicago Auto Show.
However, the European version of the new Fiesta hatchback was unveiled at the last Paris show, and the U.S. version will be hitting dealerships sometime this year. The European version of the Fiesta comes with many updates. Most of these updates are due to come with the U. S version; the European model is pretty close to what Americans should expect.
2014 Fiesta Styling
Despite returning in unchanged bodywork, the 2014 Ford Fiesta Redesign looks much more upscale than before. The biggest update is seen at the front end, where there is the Ford’s latest familial face. The car features a new trapezoidal grille, thinner headlights with LED running lights, more-aggressive lower intakes and a pronounced power dome on the hood.
Ford also redesigned the interior of the 2014 Fiesta European version considerably. For 2014, the Fiesta’s cabin are classier than even before, thanks to the piano-black plastic trim and chrome bright-work used on the door handles, steering wheel and the air-vent surrounds. There is also a center console and an armrest between the front seats of the new Fiesta. The Fiesta 2014 European version will feature a stop-start function but this feature is not planned for the U.S. market.
As classy as the interior is, buyers will not be happy with the low cargo space. With 14.9 cu-ft space behind the second row, the Ford Fiesta 2014 has one of the least spacious trunks in its class.
2014 Ford Fiesta Trims
Ford fiesta 2014 will be offered with S, SE Titanium and ST Trims
Powertrain
Under the hood of the new 2,500 pound Ford Fiesta, there is a 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission that delivers 123 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. The power to weight ratio of the Ford Fiesta 2014 car yields a subcompact that feels quick; it may not impress a performance enthusiast, but it is adequate (the car should register a 0-60 mph time of around 10 seconds). The 1.6L four-cylinder model will be introduced as well that offers 120hp and can be coupled with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission
2014 Ford Fiesta ST version is also offered which is five door hatchback model and fitted with 1.6L
1.6L that will produce 197 horsepower. The 2014 Fiesta ST is considered high end model of the series and will offer six-speed manual transmission.
Although it is still unclear if Ford will continue the SFE (special fuel economy) package on the 2014 Fiesta, Ford promises to be more fuel efficient than its competitors like the Volkswagen Passat, Geo Metro, Chevrolet Cruz Eco and Subaru which all deliver solid fuel economy numbers. According to the auto maker, the EcoBoost Ford Fiesta will have more than 40 mpg highway and will deliver better highway rating than every non-hybrid car sold in the US. If the diesel powered Volkswagen Passat sedan and the manual transmission, gasoline powered Chevrolet Cruz Eco gets 43 and 42 mpg highway ratings respectively; we expect the 2014 Ford Fiesta Redesign highway ratings to be around 45 mpg.
Price
We expect a slight price increase in the 2014 Ford Fiesta; with the current model priced at $14,200, the 3-cylinder Fiesta should have an MSRP of $16,000.
