Ford is putting the finishing touch to a more fuel efficient 2014 Ford Edge at its Oakville Assembly Complex in Oakville, Ontario in its quest to meet increasing demand for highly-economical road-oriented SUV models. The tall-roofed family wagon is known for its spacious interior, high-performance powertrains and the traditional ford quality assurance, and it is aimed at any small family who needs a little extra space.
Ford Edge 2014 Interior and Exterior Features
The new 2014 Edge boasts of an athletic exterior with a good mix of sharp sheet-metal and contours. With its hexagonal front grille and rear windshield, what you get is a vehicle with a kicked-up look. It boasts of a spacious and well-equipped interior, with a total passenger volume of 108.4 cu. ft. and cargo volume (behind front row) of 68.9 cu. ft. The upgraded cabin materials that were introduced in the 2011 Edge return, and the cabin remains faultless. One of the notable 2014 Ford Edge Changes in the interior is the introduction of the third row seat. New colors like Sunset Metallic, Oxford White will be introduced for 2014 Edge SE, SEL and Limited model and Ingot Silver for Edge Sport.
Standard convenience features in Edge 2014 model include a USB port for music players and the MyKey function. There is also a MyFord Touch system with touch-screen menus. Optional features include leather upholstery (standard in some models), blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, power tailgate (on the SEL trim) and a glass Vista Roof.
Ford Edge’s standard towing capacity with the 3.7L V6 and the Ecoboost engine are 2,000 lbs. and 1,500 lbs. respectively, but when it is equipped with the 3.5l V6, the figure increases to 3,500 lbs.
2014 Ford Edge Engine
3 choices of powertrain will be offered on the 2014 Edge. A 3.7L V6 engine with 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission rated at 305hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque was upgraded and carried over from the current model. There are also a 3.5L V6 with 285hp and 253 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 2.0L EcoBoost 4-cylinder which supplies 240hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. Ford also continues its global policy of preparing its lineups for markets outside the U.S.; a diesel engine version will be offered in Europe.
2014 Edge MPG
The new Ford 2014 edge model’s EcoBoost engine with six speed automatic transmission, gives an impressive EPA estimate of 18 city/25hwy mpg. However, the FWD, 3.5 L and 3.7 L is expected to give 19/27 mpg.
Handling and suspension
The 2014 Ford Edge Changes the previous wheel for massive 22-inch wheels, which improved the handling. Ride quality is generally firm, and it has a quick steering response. Suspension is aided by a MacPherson strut and L-shaped lower control arm with isolated subframe and stabilizer bar and an Independent with trailing blade, integrated knuckle and lateral links, isolated subframe and stabilizer bar which were used in the front and at the rear-end.
Safety
The Edge earned a three-star frontal rating and four-star overall rating in the federal testing, while it was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Edge 2014 model can be upgraded with blind-spot monitors, parking sensors and a rearview camera.
Competitor
The 2014 Edge will compete in size and mission with the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and Nissan Murano. The vehicle also competes with Honda CRV and Nissan Rouge.
Release Date and Price
Ford has not given any detail about the 2014 Ford Edge release date and price. However we can expect that the vehicle will hit the market later this year.
