In most cases, trucks are the least efficient vehicles to put on the road, but that is changing with new technologies finding their way into the average pickup truck. From now on, we will be seeing a lot of efficient trucks. One of the trucks that are getting these technological enhancements is the 2014 Dodge Ram.
The Dodge Company is the manufacturer of the RAM trucks 1500, 2500, and 3500 models, with the 1500 series the highest selling of them. The RAM trucks come in various styles and there are many upgrades to meet different needs of its fans. They are also available in both Commercial vehicle and Chassis Cab models for any business that needs big size vehicles with just enough power to get the job done.
2014 Dodge RAM changes
There are just a few changes planned for the exterior of the 2014 RAM trucks. There will be more modifications in other sections to make it a bit more attractive and efficient. We expect the diesel power used in the previous model to be boosted to around 800 lb-ft. Cummins V6 and V8 engines will make an entry in 2014 for military use. According to a source, there will be an optional air suspension setup. Another source confirmed that Long Hauler Concept will be used in making an improved suspension.
The Long Hauler Concept planned for the 2014 RAM HD involves the use of an air suspension in front and rear wheel, so as to generate a smoother ride. This concept makes use of a primary air spring located over the axle and a rolling lobe. The air springs are located just on the rear axle to prevent any impact from turning radius. An axle shift is not used, there is a mechanism already in place that prevents shift, and another that ensure that the axle stays in place always.
2014 Dodge RAM Engines
One of the most impressive changes we expect in the 2014 RAM trucks is the new eight-speed automatic transmission that is available for the V6 and V8 engines. There is also the Stop and Start system; this will help in increasing the fuel economy. The system automatically stops the engine when the car is not moving and restarts the engine when it is about to move on. There is an improved aerodynamics that also helps in reducing fuel consumption and emissions. These two modifications above will contribute to around 20% reduction in the fuel consumption of the incoming car.
Apart from the mechanical changes planned for the 2014 RAM HD, the interior will also get some cosmetic enhancement. Better quality materials are expected to be used on the dashboard to make it more attractive. There are also some awe inspiring features like an 8.4 inches browser screen and some infotainment features that are planned for the vehicle.
When 2014 Dodge Ram gets to the showrooms in late 2013 or early 2014, we expect it to compete with the 2014 Chevy Silverado and 2014 Ford F-150. It is designed for customers who want a pick-up, but do not require one that uses a high performing engine with huge pulling power. We do not know the intended base price for now, but just like every Dodge trucks, it will be cheap!
