We know that the design will be a bit different from what we have been seeing, but from the information we gathered, the frame of the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 will not be different from the previous version. There may be a new gas engine for it, but GM will just do some minor changes in it. We are hearing some speculations that the automaker is experimenting with a new grille, and that a new transmission may come with it as well.
From a picture we got, we saw that apart from the normal bed-in the back, cab-in the-front design, there are some changes coming. In this review, we will give you a quick rundown of the changes we believe GM is preparing for its Silverado fans.
Chevrolet signature bowtie and cross bar honeycomb grille were obvious from this picture. The bowtie is a giveaway that it is a Chevy full-size truck. The biggest change we noticed in the exterior of the cab models was that the door configuration has been changed. Instead of the rear hinged rear doors, what we now have are front hinged rear doors. Although we could not see the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, the vertical headlights look so much like that of the current model. It is safe to assume that the stacked headlight has not changed. There was also a hint that a chrome front bumper is coming. In the interior of the full crew-cab models, the rear passenger compartment has been resized to make it bigger. It is now almost as big as that of the Ram Mega Cab. The interior can compete with that of 2014 Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado Engines- HD models just like 2014 Chevrolet Silverado make use of new versions of the 6.0 and 6.2 litre V-8 engines and a new V-8 6.6 litre Dura-max diesel engine. GM is planning to use a new generation small block V-8 engine which will use an aluminium and direct injection. There will be a cylinder deactivation technology in the V-8 engine to directly increase the highway mileage. We do not know if it will have the popular 3.6 litre V-6 engine or a new 3.0 turbo, but we heard that an 8 speed automatic transmission is in plan. The hybrid version of the vehicle will still be produced, but a more fuel efficient V-6 engine may replace the V-8 engine.
With fuel economy improvement now compulsory, new trucks are reducing there weights. We expect GM to use lightweight materials like plastic, magnesium and aluminium in the production of the 2014 Silverado 1500. Replacing the iron block V-8 engine with aluminium engine will go a long way in in burning off some fat.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado release date
Some reports we have read mentioned different release dates for the 2014 Silverado 1500. Although GM has not confirmed or denied this, we believe that there are plans to produce the half-ton models by summer 2013, and the 2500 and 3500 models towards the end of 2013. So we can expect to see the vehicle in Detroit, during the North American International Auto Show that same year.
We do not know exactly when the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 will be released. It is worth waiting for!
