The 2014 Audi A3 hatchback was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Auto Show. The new car will compete with the Infiniti compact, BMW 1-series, Mercedes-Benz B-class and Lexus CT200h. With a weight of 2,656 pounds (which is around 198 pounds lighter than the previous model) and a lower ride height, the 2014 A3 changes considerably in the way it was constructed. From what we have heard, an ultra-lightweight construction technology was used in building the incoming five-passenger Audi A3. The body panels are made of some ultra-high-strength aluminium and steels. An optional sport suspension is used to reduce its ride height by 1 inch. The car is designed for both All-Wheel-Drive and Front-Wheel-Drive setup.
Most of the styling details are not available at the moment, but we know that an optional S Line sport package will come with features such as a black interior, sport seats, shift lever with perforated leather and a leather steering wheel. LED headlights and a 14-speaker audio system are two of the remarkable stand-alone options you should expect to see on the Audi A3 2014 model.
The 2014 A3 changes from the previous model in its powertrain line-up. Gasoline engines and diesel units, as well as an all-electric and a plug-in hybrid options are expected to be included in the engine line-up. But one diesel TDI and two gasoline TFSI engines will be offered initially. The base model is built with a turbocharged 2.0-litre gas engine rated at roughly 220 horsepower. A 140 horsepower 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine is also on its way. A 400-horsepower RS 3 model engine and an S3 engine with an output of 296 horsepower are expected to be introduced into the line-up at some point. All engines in the line-up are mated with a six-speed manual transmission system. An S tronic manual transmission is also available as an option.
According to Andrew Lipman, an Audi of America spokesman, a sedan version will come to the U.S. but the A3 Sport-back will not. The decision not to take the sport-back to the U.S. is due to the poor interest generated by hatchbacks among American buyers. So, contrary to the rumours circulating around, the sedan and its sibling, the five-door model will not be sold at the same time. The sedan which also sits on the new Volkswagen’s MQB (modular transverse) platform will enter the U.S. dealerships before the end of the year or by early next year.
2014 Audi A3 Sedan Headed to U.S.
The chief marketing officer of Audi America, Scott Keogh said in an interview that Audi expects the Audi A3 2014 sedan model to be a market leader when it eventually gets to the U.S. The German automaker expects the new car to take a place behind the Audi A4 sedan as the brand’s second highest-selling car in the U.S.
The 2014 Audi A3 sport-back with a 1.2 litre gasoline engine will start at an equivalent of $29,150 in Europe and we expect the sedan version to have a starting price of $30,000 in the U.S.
