Information we got confirmed that the production version of the 2014 Acura RLX will make a debut at the November 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. We do not have all the details about the car now, we will know more about it before its debut but we expect it to have a lot of similarity with the concept that we saw at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
The 2014 Acura RLX changes its styling. The particulars will be a bit different from what we had before; it will look more like a bigger ILX. Although its cautious styling is disappointing, the improvement in technology is a plus. We have heard that there will be a slight change in the bumpers, but that the lighting elements are virtually the same. The other distinctive changes in the exterior of the car are the 20-inch wheels and the multi-diode full-LED headlamps.
Acura 2014 RLX features
The 2014 RLX will have a spacious interior; Although Acura did not provide any figure, it said the interior volume of the car is the same with that of the Lexus LS. There will also be many convenience features in there. There will be an airbag deployment notification, security alarm notification, stolen vehicle tracking device, navigation systems, remote locking and unlocking system, a standard USB connectivity and the next-generation AcuraLink Communication System which include the dual LCD screens (an 8-inch display screen and a seven-inch touch screen that gives one touch access to audio system) and a 14-speaker audio system. The Acura RLX 2014 model will also come with an application for accessing smartphone e-mail and text-message.
2014 Acura RLX engine
Under the hood, the 2014 Acura RLX changes are also noticeable. It will now use Honda’s new Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD) system. The RLX will get its power from a 370 HP direct-injected 3.5-litre V6 engine, mated to the SH-AWD system (this system consist of 3 electric motors). One of the motors combines with the V6 engine and act as a conventional hybrid drive, the remaining two motors are used on the rear wheels. We have also heard rumours that a less performing, non-hybrid 310 HP rated front-wheel-drive version of the 2014 RLX is also in the pipeline. With a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the RLX is estimated to have 30 mile per gallon fuel economy in the city and on the highway, and a combined 30 mpg rating. One of the unique technologies the new car will come with is the Precision All Wheel Steer system which acts as a backup all-wheel-drive system for the car when it is needed.
On the safety front, the Acura RLX 2014 sedan will have standard safety gadgets like Lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, Collision-mitigation braking, forward collision warning system and all-new Jewel Eye LED headlamps. Front and side-curtain airbags will also be available for the front passengers.
With the improved technologies used and its impressive fuel economy, the 2014 Acura RLX should be able to get buyers’ attentions when it comes out this fall. We are also monitoring the front-wheel-drive model which will go on sale in early 2013 and the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD RLX which follows sometime later in the year.

Comparing with other luxury cars, Acura RLX doesn’t stand a competition. Comparing it with Accord, it appears to be a second or third class member of the family. There is hardly any innovation in the design. It would have been something to talk about if they would have used the 370 hp version. It seems people will have to wait much longer to see a legend replacement from Acura.
