Acura mid-engine performance NSX Roadster model is coming again after disappearing from the roads for seven years. Some days ago, the European patent office released patent drawings and concept of the about to be produced Acura NSX 2014 after the concept of the coupe model was released to the public at the Detroit Auto Show. The drawings were not enough to know exactly what Acura plans for its teeming fans, our spy photographer went out and saw something similar to the proposed car on the set of the newly released Avenger movie. Based on the spy shots taken and those drawings, we now have a good idea of what Acura has for its fans.
2014 Acura NSX Styling
If the 2014 Acura NSX Roadster makes it out of production, it will have the same sporty look as the coupe version, we also expect the design language to be accentuated by some aggressive edges and employ some cutting edge technology. As previously said, apart from some little differences especially in the roof, we expect the car to look a bit like the car we saw in the Avengers movie. There will be some aggressive design language just like the coupe; an aggressively-shaped rear deck cover and a low windscreen are all expected.
NSX 2014 Powertrain
The 2014 NSX concept includes a mid-engineered VTEC V6 engine with direct-injection which works hand in hand with an automatic dual clutch transmission system and 2 Electrical Motor Drive Device (Sport Hybrid Super All Wheel Drive and Front Wheel Hybrid Motors) system which employs a Bilateral Torque Adjustable management program to shift torque between wheels.
Things are still at the planning stage, Acura has not disclosed the expected power output, but there are speculations that the automaker we aim to get around 400 horsepower or thereabout from the powertrain. For a supercar-level performance, this sounds disappointing. The lightweight materials that will be used will make up for this. The weight to power ratio is just enough to make it a race-inspired car, and it will compete with Nissan’s GT-R. Honda CEO Takanobu Ito confirmed in a press statement that the well-respected carmaker will make sure that it creates a special bond between the driver and car so as to increase dynamic driving and handling ability.
Safety Features
The Acura NSX 2014 will continue in the footsteps of most new cars in its choice of safety features. We expect front and curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, 5 seat belts, multi view camera, electrical variable assist, and disc ABS on front and rear tires.
Cons
One point of argument for the critics is that the choice of powertrain planned for the car is not good enough for a 2014 model car. The proposed VTEC engine’s performance cannot be compared with the engines other cars in the class are using.
Although the 2014 NSX will certainly have higher fuel efficiency than most power cars, it will look eco-friendly enough for hybrid car fans.
Pro
The car will be well engineered for easy handling, and it will look elegant after production.
If eventually the 2014 Acura NSX is built, it will make its debut at showrooms between the last few months in 2013 and early 2014, just a year after the coupe version’s planned release date.
