Acura has gone back to its production unit for the development of new generation MDX, the 2014 Acura MDX. We have managed to get some photos of a prototype running around the German race tracks and side streets during its road test. Though the company has recently released the details of 2014 MDX prototype and the surprise package of its offered features the car still has a long way before it makes an appearance in the showroom.
Acura MDX 2014 design changes
The prototype of Acura MDX 2014 seems to have borrowed some styling cues and several elements used in the recent 2013 RLX concept and 2013 ILX sedans.
Just like what we saw in the Acura RLX, this upcoming car will also have a less exciting but more mature exterior design, something that Acura critics will be excited about. When we looked closely at the front end of the vehicle we noticed what looks like Acura’s revised five-point grille with that twin chrome slats and beaked chrome upper part we all like under the camouflage. A typical shield-shaped grille and a sharper bumper were also noticeable. 2014 MDX decorated with revamped headlight was termed its Signature Jewel Eye by the company. The company claimed that it will improve night visibility. The new 2014 MDX will offer more space by increasing its wheel base thereby creating more leg room for second row and better access to third row.
2014 MDX Engine and Performance
The Acura 2014 MDX will be powered by SOHC direct-injected iVTEC 3.5 liter V6 engine and it will use a 6-speed automatic transmission system. Styling details will not be the only similarity between the 2013 RLX and the 2014 MDX but we also expect the two vehicles to share a powertrain line-up as well. The MDX will most likely be available in both an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) and Two-Wheel-Drive (2WD) system. The two powertrain options we expect are:
- The base model: This is expected to come with a 3.5-liter VTEC V6, a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission and Acura’s “Super Handling” All-Wheel Drive. It will use a direct injection. We also expect it to have a better output than the current model.
- 2). The Acura MDX 2014 hybrid range-topper: This will most likely use the same V-6 engine used by the base model. In its case, the engine will be fitted to an electric motor and dual-clutch transmission.
Both electric and gas power sources can be used. There is a possibility for gas or electric only modes, and the hybrid mode which makes use of electric and gas power.
2014 Acura MDX Safety Features
The 2014 MDX which is expected to make a debut in various showrooms between July and September 2013 will have safety features like Lane Keeping Assist System, Active cruise Control, Traction control, Stability control, ABS, 5 seat belts and curtain airbags among many others.
The 2014 Acura MDX is expected to be equipped with many new technologies. With its more streamlined and beautiful shape, also termed as Aero Sculpture, higher performing engine and various safety features, we expect rivals like Lexus RX, Buick Enclave and BMW X5 to book appointments with their cosmetologists soon.
