Suzuki has updated its Grand Vitara brand for the 2013 model year in line with its latest design language. The 2013 Suzuki Grand Vitara comes with some new exterior styling details which include a revamped bumper with new headlights and a more modern grille. New alloy wheels, new exterior colours, and chrome cladding were also added to some trim levels of the redesigned Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Competition
The Grand Vitara is a compact SUV which competes in a highly competitive segment, against the Honda CR-V, GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Traverse, Toyota RAV4 and the Ford Escape. Although it has consistently offered good looks and spacious interior at a competitive price, it has been in its rival’s shadows in terms of its fuel economy, ride/handling balance and standard features since its debut in 2007.
Suzuki Grand Vitarahas a long cabin, which offers good leg room at all positions, but its narrowness means that it offers a limited shoulder room for the back seat passengers. The cargo room is also disappointing. All these put the vehicle at the back of its segment in this regard.
Platform
For the new model year, the Suzuki Grand Vitara continues to use both truck- and car- based mechanical components; it blends an on-road presence with its off-road ability. Grand Vitara 2013 has a carlike body setup combined with a four-wheel-drive system. The Suzuki Grand Vitara 2013 model is offered in both rear- and all-wheel drives, and uses a platform that provides both visual and dynamic balance.
The 2013 Grand Vitara is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium and Limited trims
Convenience Features
The Grand Vitara 2013 packs a lot of features for its $19,949–$25,949 price range. The base model comes with navigation, automatic climate control, keyless start and entry, power doors and locks, and an audio system. A seven-speaker audio system, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and 18-inch alloy wheels are available in the higher trims.
Although the 2012 model has all the expected standard safety features, it does not rank at the top of any safety tests. The 2013 Vitara’s active safety features include an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and four-wheel disc brakes with standard ABS and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD). Passive safety features include side curtain airbags, front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags and front and rear seat belts.
Powertrain
A 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is the only engine offered in the 2013 Grand Vitara. The engine is paired with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. The EPA ratings are- 19/25 mpg city/highway for the RWD/auto model, 19/26 mpg for the RWD/manual model and 19/23 mpg for the 4WD/auto model.
Cons
- Suzuki Grand Vitara 2013 model’s dated design leaves something to be desired when compared to some of its more stylish competitors.
- Its ancient four-speed automatic transmission only has four speeds.
Pro
- The four-cylinder engine offered strikes a nice balance between fuel economy and power.
- The solid chassis with a rear-wheel drive setup gives an off-road performance that is appropriate for rugged terrains.
With an ergonomically cabin and its effective four-cylinder engine, the 2013 Suzuki Grand Vitarais finally ready to compete with the top dogs in its segment.
