The Tribeca is an all-wheel drive and seven seats car. It is the only three-row car in the Subaru’s line-up. It belongs to the mid-size crossover segment, and is targeted at the urbane users. The new 2013 Subaru Tribeca model will look just like the 2012 model, with some minor changes. The greatest change is in the number of trim levels available. For the last model, three trim levels were offered: Premium, Limited, and Touring trims, this year’s model will only be available as a mid-range limited trim. What this implies is that some optional features on the previous models like leather, power heated front seats, roof rails and fog lamps will be standard on this model.
The new Tribeca will compete with midsize crossovers like the Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe and Ford Explorer. It has an advantage over the taller crossovers: It drives lower around corners and has better stability and steering. With its standard AWD and the 8.4 inches of ground clearance, it is perfect for winter snowstorm.
When the Tribeca was released at first, it wore an aggressive and edgy design. Over the years, since 2008 to be specific the car lost its flamboyant look for a plain-Jane design. The exterior became more anonymous, but it kept its curvy, once-futuristic cockpit. Although Subaru designed the 2013 Tribeca to impress with its decently smooth look, it looks more like a relic with its matte-metallic surfaces and choky contours. Without being too harsh on the car, the most appealing feature it has is the third row. The interior space and packaging offered by the Subaru Tribeca 2013 is below what many cars in the segment offers. But we have to give it to it, even with its small size; the space offered is still impressive. It is roomy enough for a small family, and if you have a Tribeca, you will never experience any difficulty in packing the car! Space in the third-row will be limited because of the second-row which slides back. But the front seats will be comfortable enough if you are not six feet tall, the dash cuts into knee space.
Tribeca 2013 Powertrain
The Subaru Tribeca 2013 will be powered by a 3.6-litre flat-six engine rated at 256-horsepower and it will use a five-speed automatic transmission system. With the symmetrical all-wheel drive, what you get is a respectable performance which is just a little below what is obtainable from other vehicles in its segment. Its estimated fuel economy ratings are 16 and 12 miles per gallon in the city and on the highway respectively.
2013 Tribeca Safety Features
Since its introduction, the Tribeca has been one of the safest cars in the crossovers segment. It got a Top Safety Pick status from the IIHS last year. The 2013 Subaru Tribeca model is set to continue on this path with the addition of a brake-override system. Other safety features expected include: a tire pressure monitor, head restraints, dual-stage frontal airbags, first and second row curtain airbags and a seat-mounted side impact airbags.
