From school run to normal commuting, small utility vehicles have chased the midsize sedans to the sideways due to their flexibility and cargo space. For the past few years, two of the most exciting compact SUVs around are the Kia Sorento and Honda CR-V. 2013 Kia Sorento and 2013 Honda CR-V that are about to be released later this year are embracing different patterns. Which pattern is better, and which of the two vehicles will win a 2013 Kia Sorento vs 2013 Honda CRV contest? This is exactly what this review is all about.
2013 Kia Sorento powertrain
The Kia Sorento 2013 as a crossover Small Utility Van sits in between the midsize and compact segments. It will be available in three trim levels: LX, EX and SX. Kia strategy for the 2013 Sorento model include a choice of three different engines; a standard 175 HP and 169 LB/FT of torque 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine, a direct-injection 2.4-litre four-cylinder that produces 191 HP, and an optional 276 HP and 248 LB/FT of torque 3.5-litre V6 engine. It pairs a 6-speed automatic transmission with a standard FWD or an optional AWD to give an estimated EPA range of 18 to 22 mpg in the city and 24 to 32 mpg on the highway, depending on the powertrain. The vehicle comes with a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty, and its price starts from $23,150 – $33,400 depending on the trim level.
2013 Honda CR-V powertrain
Honda CR-V 2013 model took a different, but more traditional route. It is powered by a familiar 148 BHP and 258 LB/FT of torque rated 2.2 litre i-DTEC diesel engine and a 148 BHP, 142 LB/FT 2.0 litre i-VTEC petrol engine. It uses a port fuel injection, atmospheric aspiration and a five-speed automatic transmission system for the front wheels. The 2013 CR-V does not come with any special add on, so the EX-L trim with navigation system is priced at $30,825.
2013 Honda CR-V and 2013 Kia Sorento features comparison
The interior of the Sorento looks more modern than that of the CRV. The driver seats in the two are amply comfortable. The CR-V’s has a roomier interior; the use of space in the Honda CRV 2013 is so impressive. Kia Sorento 2013 regains some ground; it is completely isolated from road noise, it has impressive handling and direct steering response. Both SUVs have rear-view camera display, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and navigation systems with traffic data. The 2013 Sorento adds a standard leather upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel, audio input jacks, surround sound audio system, Uvo voice-activated electronics interface, push button start and 18-inch alloy wheels to is list of features (the 2013 CRV has 17s).
Bottomline
Here we have two totally different crossover SUVs. One defined by its interior space, and the other define by its powertrain and standard features. It is not space alone that draws buyers to the segment; they want performance and features! The 2013 Kia Sorento represents a better choice in this regard when compared to the 2013 Honda CRV. It has more standard features, it has a decent size third-row seat, it has a sportier, smoother and more superior handling, it has a more obedient transmission, it comes with a long warranty and the powertrain include an optional fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine and an optional high-performing V6 engine.
