The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2013 Ford Explorer, the two vehicles belong to the competitive SUV segment. A 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2013 Ford Explorer competition is about to start, but I will stick with the Cherokee on this one. Read further to know why-
Let us start by looking at their styling. The Ford Explorer was the most popular SUV in America. Over the years, more and more aesthetic tweaks have been added to the first generation Explorer so as to remain competitive. With the full redesign that was done two years ago, the Explorer is now well positioned and the Ford Explorer 2013 is generally known as the most efficient of the Explorer models. It is also one of the most technologically advanced SUVs available till date. It has some dynamic qualities and its cabin can compete with those of many luxurious vehicle models. The styling of the ford is some light years ahead of that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2013.
Even with its exceptional styling, the Explorer crossover SUV model is not perfect. For instance, its third-row seat cannot be seen as roomy when compared to that of the Cherokee Jeep.
Trim
Just like the 2013 Explorer which is available in four trim levels (base, XLT, Limited and Sport trim levels), the 2013 Grand Cherokee is available in four trim levels, in two-wheel and four-wheel drive configuration: Laredo, Limited, Overland, and SRT8 (four-wheel drive only).
Features
It will be a bit difficult to pick the winner here, they both features some impressive gadgets such as Adaptive cruise control, entertainment system and many more. But the heated steering wheel which is a standard feature across every trim level in the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2013 is only available on the Ford Explorer 2013 limited trim.
Powertrain
a 290-horsepower V6 engine is standard on the 2013 Explorer, an optional turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is also available (this is more expensive, but it is best-in-class fuel efficient engine). The new Sport trim level will be built with a 365 HP turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine. For the 2013 Grand Cherokee, all the trims (except the SRT8) come with a 290-hp 3.6-litre V6 engine mated with a five-speed automatic transmission which can be replaced with a 360-hp 5.7-liter V8 Hemi engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The SRT8 trim is powered by a 470-hp 6.4-litre V8 Hemi engine with a five-speed automatic transmission. The Cherokee also features a Multi-Displacement System for deactivating four of the eight cylinders in some operating conditions.
Price
Ford has already announced the pricing for the new Explorer, the sport trim’s price to reach the $40,680. required for an all-wheel-drive Explorer Limited. So, we are looking at MSRP range of $29,135 of $40,720. The Grand Cherokee has a starting MSRP range of $27,695 to $60,295
Verdict: If high-quality interior, upscale features and highway comfort are your priorities, the 2013 Ford Explorer is a great choice. But it cannot be described as a full-on performance vehicle model, whereas the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee is known for its outright handling performance with high performing engines offered across its four trim levels.
