2013 is going to be a busy year Honda. The redesigned Honda Accord with its plug-in hybrid variant is scheduled to get to the showrooms in 2013; Honda is also working on an updated Honda Civic that will hit the market in 2013 and the “second generation” Honda CR-Z will also be released. Honda has released some video of the about to be released 2013 Honda CR-Z. The new car which belongs to the Sedans / Coupes under $50,000 Hybrids segment will compete with the Hyundai Veloster when it reaches the dealerships.
2013 Honda CRZ changes
No official announcement has been made about the teaser video that was released, but we have been informed that the 2013 CR-Z changes in the interior and exterior styling. There will also be an addition of a standard backup camera. Although styling details have not been given out, it appears like the model will sit on restyled alloy wheels and feature LED-infused headlights. The appearance of a new button marked S+ was the most notable change we noticed from the three teaser images we saw. Exactly what this new function button will do is unknown at this point, but some reviewers are speculating that that the button controls the performance enhancement feature Honda has prepared for the 2013 CR-Z. This could mean that a new drive mode has been introduced to compliment the Econ, Normal and Sport modes we have in the current model. On the current Honda CR-Z model, the sport mode sharpens steering, suspension and throttle response, the throttle response goes back to normal in the normal mode, and the car uses the electric power system to ensure high fuel economy in the econ mode. The S+ perhaps mean sport plus, and will likely offer more power on the Honda CR-Z 2013.
The 2013 CR-Z changes we have heard of are relatively minor, so the Honda CR-Z 2013 may end up being just a facelift and not the true next-generation model we have all been waiting for. Regardless of whether it is going to be a new generation car or not, the car will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on September 27th; we will know all we wish to know about the car soon enough. Some safety test has already been done on the car; it got 8 out of 10 in the Guide de l’Auto ratings. Its steering will use a rack and pinion with electrical variable assist, and it will feature a traction control, stability control, 2 seat belts, 6 airbags, and an antilock braking system.
2013 Honda CR-Z Engine
There have been rumours that the powertrain of the FWD 2013 CR-Z will be upgraded, the current model’s I-4 1.5 litre engine delivers an unimpressive 122 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque in the normal mode and 13 horsepower and 58 pound-feet of torque in the electric mode, and achieves 0-100 km/h and 80-120 km/h in 9.8 and 7.1 seconds respectively with 6-speed manual Transmission and CVT systems. A supercharged Mugen CR-Z ICF delivers 128kW in the UK-market version of the car and reduced the 0-100km/h acceleration to sub seven-second region. We do not know if Honda will try this option in the U.S. Honda CR-Z 2013 line-up.
