When we thought the muscle car world was totally taken over by the Shelby GT500’s and Camaro ZL1, we heard that Dodge SRT brand wanted to release a supercharger for its LX-platform SRT8 cars which will level the playing field. It comes with a mid-cycle facelift and a supercharged engine. The 2013 Challenger SRT8 Supercharged is a direct response to the Chevrolet Camaro and the upgraded Ford Mustang.
After shrouding the car in a layer of mask we have finally found out some things about the car. Not much has changed in the styling of this updated Dodge Challenger. The old shape and contours returned but some new design tweaks were added to make it more attractive. A lower front and larger hood are noticeable. It also features a Dodge-styled grille with a center-vertical bar and updated headlamps.
The current Challenger SRT8 keeps an impressive 392 cubic inch Hemi monster which delivers 470 horsepower under its hood. But this is 80 and 180 horsepower less than the Camaro ZL1 and the Shelby GT500 respectively. With the intense competition in the segment, Dodge had to replace the engine, and that was exactly what it did. The engine has been replaced by a higher performing new 6.4-liter HEMI which combines with an Eaton supercharge to deliver 570 horsepower. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard.
The 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Supercharged is a classic muscle car made with a 21st century technology. When looking to buy a luxury muscle car, the priorities must be for it to be fast, roomy and most importantly, well equipped with convenience and safety features. The new Dodge Challenger SRT8 is a well groomed and neatly tailored machine with a long list of modern standard niceties to make any drive a pleasurable experience.
Cons
The new Challenger is a top performer when it comes to speed, but as high performing as the engine is, it is still not as fast as the one used in the GT500 or ZL1.
The 2013 Challenger SRT8 Supercharged looks too fat and also uses an ancient suspension
The price tag may be an issue for a buyer who is just entering the muscle car segment.
Pro
Unlike most of the muscle cars around, 2013 Challenger SRT8 supercharged is practical for everyday use.
A luxury car is designed to offer high level performance and comfort in equal measure. This is exactly what the new Dodge Challenger SRT8 Supercharged promises to offer its buyers.
The car is attractively designed.
The car may not be the fastest muscle car, but it will put many cars to shame on the race track. It will give you an ideal racing experience; you can get the jolts of adrenaline while racing on the track, and easily feel the roar of the engine.
This all-American sleek coupe is expected to be unveiled early next year, at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The car may be coming late to the market, but its fans must be excited that it is coming finally. The 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Supercharged will be sold at around $50,000.
