The Chevrolet, Ford and Honda CRV belong to the same segment. Last year, the Ford Escape was the toast of the market as it outsold all the other cars in the segment. This feat was even more noteworthy when you remember that it was actually the same old first generation Escape introduced by Ford in 2001. Okay, may be along the way Ford did some cosmetic enhancements and tweaked the engine but the fact is that the Escape was old. Ford didn’t particularly need to completely remake the Escape, but that was exactly what it did. So, barely a year after the remarkable achievement, a new Ford Escape 2013 model is born.
What could it achieve; will it take over the segment completely? Only time would tell. Chevrolet is also releasing the 2013 Equinox probably with the intention to steal some attention from the Ford Escape. Which of these great vehicles do you think will rule this segment this time around? Read my 2013 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2013 Ford Escape review to know my thought.
The Chevrolet Equinox 2013 MSRP ranges from $23,755 to $30, 515, and the 2013 Ford Escape retail price is between $22,470 and $32,120.
The 2013 Ford Escape comes with a choice three different four-cylinder engines which are front wheel drives but all-wheel drive is optional. Two of these engines are direct-injected and turbocharged, and the last one is normally aspirated;
- 168 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque 2.5-litre four
- 178 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque 1.6-litre turbocharged EcoBoost four
- 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque 2.0-litre turbo four
All the engines used by the 2013 Escape are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The optional engine in the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox is a 301 horsepower, 3.6-litre V-6 engine. It is a high performing engine with high responsive feel. There is also a more fuel-efficient 182 horsepower 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine which is really smooth but has a noisy direct-injection sound. The engine has a stellar highway mileage of 32-mpg. The Chevrolet Equinox 2013 is not the most highway-friendly thing you will meet on the road, but first and foremost it is a family vehicle.
In the interior of the five- passenger 2013 Equinox, there are upscale appointments that will appeal to the most demanding driver. It is just the perfect car for the family. It offers more rear-seat legroom than any other vehicle in the class. With the Chevrolet MyLink, you can connect easily with the world. The 2013 Escape looks modern, the driver seat is so comfortable but it is not as comfortable as the Equinox. Ford gets some points for installing centre-mounted HVAC vents for the rear passengers. The equinox did not forget to do something for the rear passengers too; it features a rear entertainment system.
Appearance matters a lot, a book is judge by its cover! Although the Ford Escape 2013 model’s cabin features some innovative gadgets, it has a cheap plastic look, high centre console, and the MyFord Touch option looks so controversial. Whereas the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox combines top functionality with a stylish look, it is the total package! It also offers advanced convenience features. It is the idea crossover for you.
