2013 Buick Verano vs 2013 Buick Regal Review

Do you wish to know the better choice of car between 2013 Regal and 2013 Verano? Then you should read this 2013 Buick Verano vs 2013 Buick Regal review below.

The 2013 Buick Regal which will debut in showrooms later this year is the next Buick that will have the eAssist hybrid system as its standard equipment. The new Regal is set to follow the footsteps of the 2012 model which outperformed many cars in the midsize segment in U.S., and it was deservedly given the Best Cars for the Money and Best Cars for Families awards. eAssist (light electrification technology), is a system used especially by four-cylinder engines whereby a small lithium-ion battery pack combines with an electric-motor system to assist an engine at low speeds. This system works with a six-speed automatic transmission system. The 2013 Buick Verano Turbo will arrive at dealerships this November, just like the Regal. It is aimed at buyers who are in need of an entry level luxury sport cars.

When we heard that the tiny Buick Verano 2013 model will be powered by a direct injected turbocharged 2.0-litre Ecotec 4-cylinder engine with continuously variable timing, we expected the power output of the engine to be lower, or at most the same as the 220hp the four cylinder engine produces in the Buick Regal 2013 model. Surprisingly, we were wrong. The 4-cylinder engine delivers 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Another thing that impressed us about the Verano is the manual transmission system which was made available at no extra cost!  A 6-speed automatic is standard.

Although GM has not given out the fuel economy numbers for the 2013 Verano 6-speed auto transmission system, the estimated EPA is 20 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. We were a bit disappointed with the stiff suspension. We appreciate GM for recalibrating the steering so as to provide a better handling and on-centre feel. With the replacement of the direct-injected 2.4-litre Ecotec 4-cylinder engine in the base Regal with the new 270-horsepower turbo 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine, the 2013 Buick Regal became more fuel efficient with an EPA rating of 19 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. An Aisin AF40 6-speed auto transmission system had been added since 2012 as a no-cost option. The 0-60 mph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds will also remain.

2013 Regal vs 2013 Verano price comparison

Buick will release the full pricing for the Buick Regal 2013 model later in the year. The eAssist system was a $2,000 option on the current model. The 2012 model started at $27,940. With more standard features expect the model’s base price move up by between $2000 and $3000. With standard features like cross-traffic alert, blind zone, a rear spoiler, a nine-speaker Bose stereo and many others, the Buick Verano 2013 model is a good bargain for $29, 990.

Bottom Line

With identical pricing, handling ability, and feature list, the choice of which to pick when comparing 2013 Buick Verano vs 2013 Regal ultimately lies with the buyer. Although the engine performance of the 2013 Buick Verano is slightly better, the 2013 Regal wins again this time with its marginally better fuel economy and bigger frame.
