2012 Paris motor show: Rolls-Royce, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz are here

We have heard rumours that a Rolls-Royce SUV was on its way, and we all thought that the 2012 Paris motor show is perfect place for it to debut but we were wrong. Instead of an SUV, Rolls-Royce came to Paris with an Art Deco theme and several vehicles that matched it. We were not impressed, but it gives some customization options. Not sure about you guys but I think that the pastel blue Phantom Convertible is just dying to be driven down South Beach’s Ocean Drive, top down. Just don’t sport the fedora, guys and gals.

The McLaren P1 supercar built for road and track debuted at the 2012 Paris Auto Show some hours ago. The gorgeous orange-black combination was a real crowd-puller immediately it showed up, and from what we heard, the production design is almost completed. Presently, there is no car anywhere that has higher levels of down-force than it. The car was designed to give high aerodynamic performance. Just like a Formula One car, it has spent many hours in the wind tunnel using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) aerodynamic modelling. A 600kg down-force can be achieved when it is moving below its maximum speed.

A not-so-popular outfit named the PGO also made an impression today at the 2012 Paris Auto Show. It came with a number of products and they all look like a mash up of other vehicles. When you look at one of its products, the Hemera, you will see a bit Porsche 356 from one angle, MINI Countryman from another and Hyundai Veloster from the back.  The Speedster will remind you of the Porsche 356, an Alfa Romeo and the Fiat. According to the French automaker, they cater for those who want a car that is unique. But I am yet to see anything unique about the interior and the funky mash-up of design characteristics looks so odd to me. If you cannot afford the Porsche 356, or the Alfa Romeo looks so expensive, you can visit the PGO for a replica.

Many people are already disappointment with the 2012 Paris motor show; there has been more talk about the current economy situation than about cars! There have been many complaints from European automakers of their low sale all through the year. People are buying fewer cars in recent years! According to the CEO of Fiat, the auto companies have lost about three million sales in the last five years. The question most Europe’s struggling car builders have been trying to solve is how they can seduce the climate-conscious consumers back. Many people have been proposing many measures to tackle this problem, and Mercedes also showed that it has interest in preserving the environment when it displayed the 416,500-euro Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive at the Paris Auto show.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe gives a maximum output of 552 kW and a top speed of 250 km/h, and it will likely be the most powerful and fastest electric car when it comes out in 2013. The car is made for the affluent, and it comes with high-tech solutions for future motoring issues.

The 2012 Paris motor show enters its third day tomorrow, and we will bring you all the updates.
