Many great concept cars will be on display this year, but beyond the fancy cars, many concepts that are not even in production at the moment will be showcased. The hometown companies are renowned for their unconventional automobile designs; they have presented us with the Renault Dauphine and the Citroen 2CV. But in the 2012 Paris motor show they have dropped their rebellion (at least to an extent); the French automakers have now taken some design tips from the Art Institute of Outer Space.

The first vehicle on display today was the Peugeot 2008 Concept. It is an urban crossover concept based on Peugeot’s 208 compact hatchback’s platform, and built just like the Land Rover Evoque. According to Peugeot, the car is aimed at young city dwellers, and it will go into production next year. A production variant is set to be built at three plants around the world.

Trying to steal attention from the Peugeot 2008 was the Citroën Tubik. Original displayed at the Frankfurt motor show last September, it is a microbus concept. The all-wheel-drive is powered by a Hybrid4 technology; it features a diesel engine and an electric motor. The nine passenger car appeared in moody blue, and the well-arranged interior will definitely receive buyers’ attentions.

Also the bullet-sleek Peugeot Onyx concept was on one of the platforms. This concept qualifies for the most outrageous sports car in Paris title. It has a matte paint job on some sections of its carbon fiber body, and the other sections are all covered in copper sheet. The rear-end glowers and it features six exhaust outlets or so. The Onyx will be powered by a 600 horsepower 3.7-liter V-8 diesel hybrid engine.

Away from the Peugeots and the Citroen, the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo and the BMW Concept Active Tourer are two of the motors that were also displayed in the 2012 Paris Motor show today. The stylish Sport Tourismo showcases Porsche new hybrid technology and the Active Tourer is built on the new UKL1 platform.

From the Bentley Continental GT3 racecar to the new Jaguar F-Type and the Audi concepts, many cars are shedding their camouflages at the 2012 Paris motor show. We will be bringing you all the latest news and reviews of the new models as they are unveiled by the car manufacturers.
